Engine and Transmission Delivery: A Shop-Ready Checklist

By Omnis Auto Parts

Plan freight delivery for a used engine or transmission, including shop access, liftgate service, delivery inspection and installation scheduling.

Plan delivery before placing the order

Engines and transmissions typically travel as heavy freight, not ordinary parcels. Confirm the actual shipping method, destination and unloading arrangements with your sourcing specialist. A residential address may need different service than a repair shop with a loading dock.

Ask for the full delivered quote, including any applicable residential or liftgate charges. Availability and freight timing depend on the specific supplier, destination and carrier; a requested delivery date is not a guarantee.

Check the repair shop's receiving setup

Ask the shop who will receive the delivery and whether it has suitable unloading equipment. A liftgate can lower freight to ground level, but it does not necessarily provide inside delivery or movement into a service bay. Confirm those details with the carrier.

  • Correct shop name, street address and delivery ZIP
  • Receiving contact and phone number
  • Business hours and any appointment requirement
  • Loading dock or suitable forklift availability
  • Liftgate and access requirements if needed
  • Safe storage until installation

Inspect the shipment and document concerns

Have the receiving team follow the carrier's inspection procedure. Check the packaging and visible assembly condition, verify identifying information against the order and photograph any apparent damage. Note concerns on delivery paperwork where appropriate and contact the seller promptly for instructions.

Do not install an incorrect or visibly damaged assembly while waiting for a response. Retain packaging and documentation until the issue is resolved. Carrier and seller procedures can differ, so ask how to report a problem before delivery day.

Schedule installation around the actual arrival

Coordinate shop time with the confirmed shipment rather than an early estimate. Omnis' published 30-day parts warranty begins on delivery, not on the installation date, and parts must be returned within the policy window. Long storage before installation reduces the time available to discover and resolve a problem.

Certified installation is required under Omnis' warranty. Your mechanic should review the engine or transmission installation conditions in advance, including required service items and contamination checks. Keep the invoice, identification details and service records.

Ask about return freight before buying

Engines and transmissions are expensive to move a second time. Read the return authorization process, packaging requirements and freight responsibility. Omnis' published policy excludes return shipping reimbursement and may apply a restocking fee and shipping deductions for qualifying non-defect returns.

When you call for sourcing, give the specialist both the vehicle details and receiving arrangements. Matching the correct used OEM assembly and planning delivery together can help avoid preventable ordering and scheduling mistakes.

This guide is general buying information, not a diagnosis or vehicle-specific installation instruction. Have a qualified mechanic confirm the repair and fitment. Review our full warranty and return terms before ordering.
